Welcome to The Tooth Workshop
About Us
We're a pediatric dental practice in Chesterfield, VA, built on the belief that dental care should be educational, empowering, and genuinely fun for kids. Everything about The Tooth Workshop, from the way Dr. Stewart connects with each patient to the maker-inspired environment we've created, is designed to help kids build a healthy relationship with the dentist that lasts a lifetime.
Meet your pediatric dentist
Dr. Preston Stewart
Dr. Preston Stewart is a board-certified pediatric dentist with a deep commitment to helping kids thrive — in the dental chair and beyond. He earned his DDS from Loma Linda University and completed his pediatric dentistry residency through NYU Langone Hospitals in Princess Anne, Maryland. From day one, his focus has been on delivering care that is personal, educational, and genuinely kid-friendly.
Dr. Stewart's path to pediatric dentistry is one he'll tell you he didn't plan, and one he's grateful he found. At 19, he was living in Guatemala and had the opportunity to translate for a group of volunteer eye doctors providing free exams and glasses to those in need. Watching people use their careers to serve others and make a real difference lit something in him. He came home knowing that was the kind of work he wanted to do. A few years later, a friend's offhand suggestion led him to dentistry, and it clicked immediately.
Through dental school, Dr. Stewart was certain he wouldn't specialize. That changed the moment he started his pediatric rotations. He'd come home on those days a completely different person with more energy and excitement. His wife noticed before he was ready to admit it. When his first child was born, it confirmed what he already knew: working with kids was where he was supposed to be.
After completing his residency, Dr. Stewart spent 8 years as an associate, honing his clinical skills and building a clear picture of the kind of practice he wanted to create. He is board-certified in pediatric dentistry, a credential that reflects his dedication to the highest standards of care for children at every stage of development.
Outside of the office, Dr. Stewart is a maker through and through. He loves woodworking, 3D printing and modeling (a hobby he shares with his older son), camping, board games, and food — cheese, especially. His hands-on, creative nature is not just a hobby; it is the foundation of everything The Tooth Workshop is built to be. He is a dad first, a dentist second, and the kind of provider who will remember your kid's favorite subject, their last big game, and exactly what they were hoping to print on their next visit.

First Visit
Here is what your child's visit will look like from start to finish
From the very first phone call, you will notice that The Tooth Workshop is different. Every interaction is warm, welcoming, and built around your child. We take the time to understand who your kid is before we ever pick up a brush.
Patient Experience
When you arrive, your child will be greeted by a colorful, creative environment unlike any dental office they have been to before. While they wait, they can watch the 3D printers running in the welcome area, printing the prize they will get to pick up at the end of the visit. In the treatment room, Dr. Stewart will get to know your child, talk with you both about habits, diet, and any concerns, and build a care plan tailored specifically to them. He does not rush, he does not guess, and he does not treat every kid the same. On the way out, your child picks their prize and leaves a little more confident than when they walked in.
What to Bring
To help us get your child's care started smoothly, please bring the following to your first visit:

A space designed to make kids feel right at home
We have put real thought into every corner of The Tooth Workshop because the environment your child walks into matters just as much as the care they receive. From our maker-themed treatment rooms to our paperless check-in experience, every detail is designed with your child's comfort and curiosity in mind.

3D printing prize program
Our 3D printers run throughout the day in the welcome area, printing prizes your child can watch being made in real time. At checkout, they pick their prize from the collection — and when they hit a major milestone, we celebrate with a custom-printed reward made just for them.

Maker-themed treatment rooms
Each treatment room at The Tooth Workshop is themed around a different method of making: woodworking, robotics, metalworking, painting, pottery, and more. The goal is an environment that sparks curiosity, feels familiar, and makes the dental chair a lot less intimidating.

Digital X-rays
We use digital X-rays to get clear, accurate images of your child's teeth quickly and comfortably, with significantly less radiation than traditional X-rays.

Paperless workflow
From new patient forms to treatment plan discussions, we keep things as paperless as possible. Our digital systems make the administrative side of your visit fast and simple so you can focus on what matters.

Private hygiene rooms
Treatment plan conversations happen one-on-one in private hygiene rooms. There’s no waiting room ears or awkward timing. Just a focused, comfortable conversation between you, your child, and Dr. Stewart.
Beyond the office
Investing in the Chesterfield community
The Tooth Workshop was built to be a true part of the community. Dr. Stewart is currently in talks with the local library to find ways to support their makerspace and robotics clubs, bringing the same spirit of creativity and education that defines The Tooth Workshop into the broader community. We believe that helping kids develop a love of learning and making — whether that is brushing technique or building a robot — is part of what it means to truly invest in their futures.
